Next, we have an obvious summer recommendation, but one that shouldn’t be overlooked - Cambridge’s greens. 

Pack up a picnic, or simply grab a blanket and a good book and make your way to the stunning parks of Cambridge. Here’s a list of the ones we highly recommend visiting to make the most of summer in Cambridge.

Gonville Garden

We welcomes visitors into our very own garden, tucked away with ample seating and refreshments options. Our garden is a beloved part of the property, featuring grand trees, beautiful blooms, and an elegant yet relaxed atmosphere for you to enjoy a slice of summer in.

Midsummer Common

An ancient area of grassland, Midsummer Common, is one of the most loved green spaces in Cambridge. With meadows bordering the River Cam, it’s the perfect spot to graze on summer snacks or seek out local nature. It also is the hosting grounds for many of the city’s annual events including Cambridge Midsummer Fair and Guy Fawke’s Night.

Jesus Green 

Located slightly north of Cambridge, you’ll find another wonderful green area. Jesus Green takes its curious name from its proximity to Jesus College. It’s a popular park among college students and features a refreshing lido that spans 91 metres. 

Parker’s Piece

Situated centrally, Parker’s Piece is framed with gorgeous willow trees and greenery and is a popular picnic spot. It has a long history dating back many years and is often used for cricket matches too.

Botanic Garden at Cambridge University 

Finally, but not least, the Botanic Garden spans 40 acres and is located in the heart of Cambridge. Founded in 1846, it remains a leading horticultural centre and houses over 8,000 plant species.

 

3. Punting Trips in Cambridge

No summer in Cambridge is complete without a punting trip! Step into a traditional punt and glide smoothly through the waters as you take in the city's atmosphere.

Music in the Parks - Free Summer Series (June-September)

Cambridge Summer Music Festival (July)

Taking place from July 2nd to 30th, the Cambridge Summer Music Festival will feature 30 diverse performances, covering genres such as jazz, folk, and guitar, among others.

The Backs to Grantchester Village 

Enjoy a leisurely 6-mile return route to Grantchester, an idyllic village. Cycle the peaceful riverside path and stop off for a picnic on the way. There’s also The Orchard Tea Garden for a cosy drink too! 

Cambridge Science Park Loop

This route is perfect for those who fancy a longer cycle, with the loop just over 10 miles. Enjoy a quiet cycle with a wealth of cafes en route. Whether you want to get some cardio in or are curious to see the lesser-known parts of the city, we highly recommend this track.
